How to adapt to swift change in an organisation

Nothing turns your working world on its head quite as much as a big, sudden change in the way you need to work or the way in which the company you're working for is run. Whether it's due to changes in law, different leadership or any other reason, keeping up with big changes can seem like a difficult task, and it's easy to get off track. But when it comes to adapting to those sudden changes and continuing to meet the needs of your business, there are a few things you can do to help you adapt quickly and be back to 100% in no time:

    1. Prepare as best as you can

    Sometimes, change can come entirely out of the blue and leave you scrambling to do your job to the best of your ability. But other times, there is some forewarning to upcoming changes in your organisation, no matter how brief. Being proactive about the way you tackle these changes ahead of time, whether it's taking time to learn more about what's happening in your organisation or simply researching new legislation or information about upcoming changes in anything from software to procedures. From data protection payroll changes to overall GDPR requirements, there are many reasons why change might be necessary, so preparing is the ideal place to start.

      2. Learn to roll with it

      The key to being able to adapt to swift changes is being able to roll with those changes. Being inflexible can be a recipe for disaster when it comes to being prepared to embrace upcoming change, and being stubborn about the old way of doing things will often just lead to a longer learning process, making it more difficult for you to integrate with a new way of doing something. The ability to be flexible and open to new ways to work is an excellent skill for any employee, but if you can roll with it, you're in a good place when it comes to the implementation of further changes in the future.

        3. Educate yourself

        Often, new changes come with new ways of thinking or styles of doing things. Whether it's a difference in the way your HR services department works, a change of software or a different approach to filing paperwork, educating yourself on the subject can put you miles ahead and provide you with the insight you need to continue doing your job at the top level. This could be through formal training, or simply looking up information online to ensure you're up to speed with what changes mean and how they affect you.
